If you are seriously into your crafts and crafting, or if it’s how you make your living, then you will know that a decent craft table is a must.
Working on your projects and creating your masterpieces takes uptime, and a lot of space, so having your own area to work can be invaluable.
As crafters know, working on projects can get very messy. There tends to be bits of paper, fabric, glitter, and glue everywhere. Also, there is simply nothing worse than just getting set up on the dining table, being all excited to get started on your project, only to have to clear everything away again to get started on dinner within an hour or so.
Working at a regular desk is always an option. Still, they don’t tend to come with enough storage for all your bits and pieces. Crafting tables, on the other hand, are specifically designed to not only have plenty of storage and enough space, but they also come with nifty features like angled shelves for paper stock or built-in storage areas for rolls of paper of fabric.
Below we have compiled a list of all the best craft tables as well as some things to consider and look out for to help you decide which desk is the right one for you.

Buyer’s Guide – Key Considerations
Types of Crafts
The first thing you should consider when looking into buying a craft table is what type of crafts and projects you will be doing at it; for example, some tables are great for if you are sewing or doing other crafts where you are sitting down a lot.
However, some may find it better to have a slightly higher work surface if they are doing crafts that require them to be standing up a lot, such as working with a Cricut machine. There are also tables specific for certain crafts such as sewing, kids’ crafts, or those crafts that require the table to be a little sturdier, like heat press tables and stands.
Ease of Assembly
There are two options when it comes to the assembly of your table. The first is heading out to the shops and buying one that is already made, although that comes with the added difficulty of getting it home (and if your car is anything like the size of mine, that is definitely not an option).
The other option is to buy your table flat packed and assemble it yourself. Most crafting tables are easy enough to assemble, but as they often come with extra storage spaces, it may be an idea to have an extra pair of hands available to help you.
Storage Considerations
Craft tables differ from regular desks in that they have far more storage available. This is especially important if, like me, you have built up a massive stash over the years and now need somewhere to put it all out of sight.
Many tables come with things like deep drawers, compartments for paper, and angled shelves. Consider what type of storage you need, and how much, before committing to a table. It is no use buying a table with only two drawers if you have an entire roomful of craft bits and pieces to put away.
Space and Portability
The final thing to consider when it comes to your ideal craft table is where you will be keeping it. Some craft tables fold away completely and can be stored out of sight until they are next needed. However, these come with limited storage options. Others come with storage and fold down partially, and others do not fold down at all, so you will have to ensure you have the space needed for those.
Other craft tables come on wheels, meaning you can move them from room to room, depending on where you fancy doing your crafting that day; again, these tables are ideal for ease of use and portability, but they do not have loads of storage space.

Ameriwood Home London Hobby Desk
Click to learn more / buy from Amazon
The Ameriwood Home London Hobby desk, like the Office above, comes with a large attached bookshelf style design. Instead of shelves this time, the Ameriwood has cubes built-in, twelves in total, eight on the bookshelf, and four more underneath the desk on the opposite side.
These cubes are easy to access and give you loads of storage space; however, they do limit you should you be wishing to store larger pieces, like rolls of fabric, or lie anything completely flat, like large papers.
Its compact size means the Ameriwood will fit nicely into smaller rooms, and as it is made from laminated hollow core, particle-board, and MDF, it is a sturdy and long-lasting desk. To clean the desk down, it is recommended you only use a damp cloth sparingly, suggesting that the desk may not be completely waterproof. This means it may not be completely ideal for certain crafts, and you would have to invest in something extra to cover your work surface.
It weighs around 91.3lbs when shipped and will require assembly by two adults.
PROS
- Space-saving design.
- Compact to fit into smaller spaces and rooms.
- Twelve separate cubes, making it easy to stay organized.
CONS
- Heavy desk and will require two people to assemble.
- No drawers to allow you to hide tools out of sight.
- Will need storage bins to keep everything neat and tidy (sold separately), so some extra expenses.
Sullivans Quilters Design Table White
Click to learn more / buy from Amazon
The Sullivans Quilters Design Table comes with a small amount of storage, totaling two shelves in a cupboard and a single drawer.
It also includes a roll-out serger storage shelf that slots away easily when the desk is not in use. The desk’s work surface has a fold-out melamine table, which has the added benefit of a 1 inch gridded surface printed onto the desk; this will come in very handy. It should be noted, though, that while this is great for measuring your pieces, the surface of the desk is not conducive to cutting. Therefore you should use a cutting mat.
When opened out, the desk dimensions are 47L x 35.5W x 29.75H inches, giving you plenty of space to spread out during your crafting sessions. Once folded down, the dimensions of the desk become 47L x 16.5W x 29.75H inches allowing it to slot away in a corner for easy storage.
PROS
- Comes on casters allowing it to be moved easily.
- The fold-out desk gives a vast surface area.
- Gridded surface printed onto the desk surface for easy and accessible measuring.
CONS
- Not easy to put together and the instructions are not the clearest.
